Last summer 'Reflection: Barbara in Portrait' won 'The James White Arts Award 2008/2009' from the Royal Dublin Society, Ireland. For me this photograph asks many questions. What is a portrait? Has it to be beautiful? What is beauty? Is beauty perfection? What is perfection? Perfection is flawless, so therefore can a portrait have flaws? You have to peel back the layers of old and new. The light switches are from different decades. Look at the variation of prints within a print.

This photograph is from a body of Documentary Film and Photography work entitled 'Eric and Barbara
: Attached to Scrap.' In a society where people are becoming more homogeneous and reaching for the same ideals, rich characters are inevitably disappearing from our rural communities. Therefore I decided to get out there and spend time with Eric and Barbara who are local scrap merchants. Their accumulation of scrap has led them to collecting antiques as a hobby, nicely tucked away in their own museum. They also have a fine collection of cats, which are a part of the family. Even when Eric and Barbara are sitting quietly there is a story being told.
