Darren Donohue Biography

I am a native of Newbridge, Co Kildare where I helped establish Crooked House Theatre Company and Kildare Youth Theatre.

I have worked as an actor, theatre director and playwright with many of Ireland s leading companies.

I have extensive experience facilitating theatre workshops and also write and direct for film. I have facilitated film and drama workshops throughout Dublin, Kildare and with groups from Tullow, Moneenroe, CBS Kilkenny, Kells, Carlow Little Theatre and Barnstorm. I am currently based in Co Kilkenny.

My previous writing credits include Voices in the Rubble, Revelations (Stewart Parker Award nomination), Propelled Upright and The Bird Trap. Previous acting credits include; Beyond Therapy (Spike Productions), Jack Fell Down (TEAM), Dead Mans Beard (Everyman Palace) and Macbeth (Crooked House). Film and Television; Fair City (RTE), Custers Last Stand-up (RTE/BBC), The Borstal Boy (BP) and The Magnificent Ambersons (HBO).

Acting, writing and directing reviews:

Macbeth: "Darren Donohue is a very interesting young actor and his Macbeth is a serious interpretation of the great role. He has presence, a voice over which he has total control and that great gift of the theatre; stage presence"
Irish Times

Voices in the Rubble:
"An original creation intelligent wit and sharp writing clever against the grain dialogue the author directs his own work with clarity and pace another string to his bow."
Irish Times

Revelations:
"A promising start to the festival, Revelations takes us refreshingly far from the slowly unfolding family dramas of mainstream theatre here. Imagine Misery rewritten for the stage by Alan Ayckbourn and youve got the measure of this darkly comic piece by Darren Donohue..."
Irish Times

The Bird Trap:
this darkly comic short play works best at the level of a sinister little folktale of all the shows Ive seen it was the strongest and most original.
Irish Theatre Magazine

This is the best work Crooked House has done. They should keep it up.
Sunday Independent
