Moving Forward

Development of the Waterford Arts Strategy is moving forward
– Do you want to shape its direction?

Following on from public meetings held in January and February in Waterford City and Dungarvan, the Arts Office, Waterford City & County Council is progressing the development of the Arts Strategy by inviting participants to a World Café Style – Arts Strategy Focus Meeting to be held at the Coastguard Cultural Centre, Love Lane, Tramore on Thursday 24th March 2016. Members of the public, artists, representatives of arts organizations and groups, community and voluntary groups, educators, businesses and all interested are invited to attend.

The aim of the meeting will be for people to ‘workshop’ some of the shared area of interest and issues that were raised by participants at the initial public meetings. Participants will work together in small groups, following a World Café style meeting, to discuss a set of focused areas of commonality that arose and that will be explored as future objectives and actions of the Arts Strategy.

This meeting will be held at the Coastguard Cultural Centre, Love Lane, Tramore on Thursday 24th March 2016. Registration and Refreshments 6.45pm

Meeting Starts 7.00pm (Duration approx. 2 hours)

Booking is essential – (In order to allow the maximum range and diversity of participation the meeting will be restricted to one representative per organization or group).

Notification of Public Meetings for the Arts in Waterford

The Arts Office, Waterford City and County Council is hosting public meetings to discuss the development of the new Waterford Arts Strategy 2016-2121.

The Arts Office is pleased to have the services of Arts Consultant Sally O’Leary, Asprey Arts to assist with the facilitation of the process.

The Arts Office is keen to ensure that everyone interested has the opportunity to contribute to the development of this crucial strategy. Members of the public, artists, representatives of arts organizations and groups, community and voluntary groups, educators, businesses and all interested are invited to attend. Please confirm your attendance to either or both of the meetings by emailing aspreyarts@gmail.com and indicate which meeting you wish to attend.

 

The first meeting will be held at The Old Market House Arts Centre, Lower Main Street, Dungarvan on Tuesday 26th January 2016 at 6.00pm.

The second meeting will be held in the Large Room, City Hall, Waterford on Wednesday 3rd February 2016 at 6.00pm.

Meetings will be approximately one hour in duration. All are most welcome.

Owing to the recent  amalgamation of Waterford County Council and Waterford City Council, the new authority of Waterford City & County Council is pleased to announce, in association with Artlinks and its partners, that all eligible artists residing within this area (including the city) are now entitled to register as members of the Artlinks programme. Drama bursaries available in County Waterford

The Arts Office of Waterford County Council is offering grant assistance to members of drama groups in the County, who wish to avail of the week long residential Summer School held by the Drama League of Ireland in the University of Limerick.

This year the school runs from Saturday 26th July to Saturday 2nd August 2014.

A variety of drama courses are available, full details on www.dli.ie. The Countywide arts programme is generously supported by the Arts Council/An Chomhairle Ealaíon.

The closing date for applications to this scheme is 12 noon Wednesday 21st May 2014.

County Waterford ArtLinks Literature Mentoring – Recipients Announced

It is with great pleasure that the Arts Office, Waterford County Council announces details of literary supports to a dozen writers from around the county. Arts Officer Margaret Organ said that the investment they had made over the past number of years in partnership with Artlinks in the area of literature mentoring is showing in the quality of writers emerging from the region. She continued to say ‘We are lucky to have secured the services of the poet and writer Grace Wells who has a unique talent for mentoring. As an experienced creative writing facilitator, and mentor she is dedicated to helping emerging writers gain confidence in their voice and style’ . Grace Wells is an award-winning poet and children's author. Her debut poetry collection, ‘When God Has Been Called Away to Greater Things’ (Dedalus Press), won the 2011 Rupert and Eithne Strong Best First Collection Award, was short-listed for the London Fringe Festival New Poetry Award and has been translated into Italian. She reviews poetry for Poetry Ireland Review and The Stinging Fly.

The following are the recipients of full Literature Mentoring in 2014 :

Martina Dalton/ Tramore, Marie O’ Meara/ Dungarvan, Dolores Lyons/Dungarvan, Karen Power/Kilmeaden, Mary Grehan/Passage East, Ann Rath/Lismore, Lani O’ Hanlon/An Sean Phobal, Siobhán Twomey/Lismore.

The Arts Office is also pleased to facilitate a Clinic Literature mentoring session for Sandra Clarke, Dungarvan, Mary McCarthy, Tallow, Eamon Duffin, Tramore and Dolores Ronayne, An Rinn.

Waterford County Council is a partner of the Artlinks programme with kind assistance of the Arts Council/An Chomhailre Ealaíon.

Opportunity to attend the Molly Keane Writers Retreat in Ardmore for FREE

Waterford County Council’s Arts Office is offering County Waterford Writers’ the opportunity to attend the Molly Keane Writers Retreat Week in Ardmore, Co. Waterford free of charge.

Two non residential bursaries are on offer for the 18th to 24th August 2014. Creative Writing Practice and Process with Writer and Poet Lani O’ Hanlon is the theme of the week and this year the retreat is pleased to welcome special guest writer Nuala Ní Chonchúir. Open Call – Being Here

We are delighted to announce an open call to cultural practitioners

‘Being Here’ is a curated visual arts project organised by Jane O’Neill, curated by Ciara Maher Langan and administered by Colette Ryan in association with the Arts Services of Waterford Co. Council which seeks to explore Co Waterford’s sense of place and sense of identity through the arts.  Practitioners across all art forms are invited to submit work for inclusion in a group show being held in the Old Market House Arts Centre, Dungarvan, between 4th June and 12th July 2014, with the possibility of the show touring to other venues.  Submissions are invited across all media; the visual arts, literature, music, dance, i.e. painting, sculpture, film, photography, poetry, writing, music, etc.   The work should reflect one of two themes; the sense of place of Waterford or the individual’s sense of identity.  All work must be new or recent.  Participation is primarily aimed at people with Waterford connections, however all work that takes a point of departure from the statement will be considered.

Participants can register their interest in being included in the show by emailing beinghereaboutwaterford@gmail.com and a Curatorial statement which may inform the creation of work will be emailed to you.

Closing date for submissions:     5pm on April 17th 2014

Regional Arts Awards for County Waterford

The Arts Office of Waterford County Council is offering artists in all disciplines the opportunity to attend The Tyrone Guthrie Centre at Annaghmakerrig, the artists’ workplace in County Monaghan during 2014. Owings to it’s popularity last year, the option of one and two week bursaries are on offer again. The bursary covers all board and lodging expenses plus the use of a studio if required. The Centre can also cater for artists with special needs and it extends to having a person accompany such artists if necessary. County Waterford practitioners of all art forms over 18 years can apply.

The Countywide arts programme is supported by the Arts Council/An Chomhairle Ealaíon.
